How would you hang it?

Kids gave me this barn quilt, built by one of my Son In Laws, for Christmas.

I want to get it hung on the big old barn since we have been having such nice weather.

But I can't decide whether to hand it like it sits or hang it on the diamond.

What do you think?

Man, You gotta bleed RED to realize how COOL that is ! I would have to see the barn to decide if diamond or square !

You have an awesome family. I like them hung points up but i'm not sure on that one. Sorry i'm no help.

I'll have to show this to my quilter wife... I doubt it will give her any ideas though... she's a city girl and doesn't understand an attachment to tractors

Very cool

I say hang it as is - straight. I turned my laptop sideways to see what it'd look like at an angle, and to me when it's tilted, it's harder to tell what it is - it almost looks like some kind of native american design that way.

With it straight - and the IH's angled, they seem to jump out more - more obvious.

my 2 cents

Here's an picture of the barn that I had. Doesn't show all the roof line very well but this is the side it is going on. It will go above the line you see in the siding.

I vote for how it sits. It looks like you might get lucky and the angle of the top IHs will line up fairly close to the angle of the roof on each side.

Gary,

Even I have to admit that you have one heckuva wall hanging there. Whichever way you go, let the neighbors enjoy it!

Cool!!!

IAGary: with that double angle roof I would go with the point UP and started at the same level as where the double roof angle changes between the upper and lower roofs.. If you are careful with coated woodscrews you could change later with little damage done to either sign or siding.. Good sign and good question.. Good luck.

mount it one way for a while, then change it to different way another time to confuse everyone, not know which way is up...lol

just saw the bag of empty goodies next to quilt,,,if you have enough of them, you might get dizzy looking at wall hanging too...lol

My wife is a quilter (teaches it) and I have several decorative Quilts hanging in My office and Labs at SCSU. I would take a photo of it and make a transpaancy. I would then project this image on the barn and mark the edges with a pencil on the wood. Then I would paint the siding to match the quilt. Then I would cherish the quilt indoors where it belongs. There are weeks of work in her effort (or more). If you put in 2 days it would make a statement about your love of her work. Unless it is made of UV and mold resistant materials and Hollowfill batting, it will decay in short order. When it looks like used oats it will be worthless. Jim

Nice son-in-law to build you a quilt. It's beautiful.

Definitely diamond... husband thinks so too. It will show off the IH better that way as the top and bottom logos will be straight up and down and the diamond would be be more interesting.

I would make some kind of inverted v frame (color matched to the quilt border - or else a nice wood one) so it will clamp down on the quilt along the entire length of the frame. Otherwise over time it will get saggy/puckered by its own weight pulling at it.
