Farmall M Values

I often read about Farmall M values on this forum and whetjher particular tractors are worth saving or scrapping. I realize, of course, that there are far more Farmall M tractors in the U.S.A. than here in Australia (and as for F series Farmalls out here… like hens teeth). You just cannot find a Farmall M in running order for under three thousand dollars (at least I have failed to do so). From some of the messages I have read here, I would come close to breaking even if I just bought a fairly ordinary tractor in the U.S. and imported it. What sort of values do Farmall M tractors command? Interested to know what a tractor found after years in a field or barn as against a completely rebuilt/restored machine would be worth.
Thanks,
SadFarmall

From what I am seeing SadFarmall,One sitting in the weeds/fence row rusty, locked up motor, bad rear tires but complete.About $500.00 max American dollars. (4000 to 5000 lbs of scrap metal)

A non restored,NON collector,average M ,85% or better rear tires,runs good,narrow front end.NO big options:(wide front,power steering,3 point hitch)Good paint but NOT show finish paint.About $1200.00 to $1500.00 American dollars

A FULLY restored ,collector(like a 1939 M with ORIGINAL seat post,36" rear wheels,or first or last of a particular year made))New bearings and seals,NOT leaking fluids,NEW rear tires all the way around.SHOW quality paint, rebuilt engine, Has RARE options,(like say EARLY style wide front,)Or just loade of options after market.ect, ect, ect,

These I see STARTING from $2500. on up ........
I have seen SOME better than show room new looking Ms where they are ASKING $5000.00 for them.

There will be some debate on my last comment here. But I have seen asking prices on the REALLY NICE ONES fron $2500 on up .(Depends on condition/options????)

There are a lot of guys filling shipping containers and sending them over. I know a guy (he is on the fourms sometimes, too) that sold a 450 overseas and he was telling me about a few others when I was at his shop.
It is tough to say what restored Ms sell for because the price is personal opinion as much as anything. A lot of guys are asking "what they have in it" or more and they usually aren't worth that. I would put unrestored Ms at $1000-1700. I could get you an early SM that was rebuilt a few years ago for $1850. I test drove it and it is super strong and one of the nicest off the farm tractors I have ever seen. This farm also had 6 straight Ms for sale when I was there. My neighbor bought one of them for $1500. They were the best running and looking off the farm Ms I had ever seen.

One can occaisonally find real bargains if you"re in the right place at the right time, but most (including me) are not
willing to resell at bargain prices. I have two such bargains. One is an M farmall bought as a non runner at a farm auction. It had straight sheet metal, some of the ignition parts had been robbed for something else over the years. It took about an hour to get it running. Purchase price 400.00. Not for sale. I feel it would sell for 1000 to 1200 now with decent rear tires.
