I need a manifold for my farmall bn. I have looked on ebay and also at new ones. My question is, would it be better to just buy a new one then a used one? I know the used part are over 60 years old and I am not sure how long they would last. I was thinking of just sucking it up and get new instead of a used one. Any thoughts on the idea. I use the bn and it is not show quality .

i think new is much better, anything 60 years old made of cast iron subjected to that kind of heat is not going to be in good shape. the new ones are fairly inexpensive. i just bought a new one for my 300 and it worked out great..

Look for a Vinson manifold as I think they are made in this country or at least the ones on my M and SC were. I believe the last one for the SC a few years ago I obtained from Marshalls Tractor Parts in Cynthiana, Kentucky. I don't have any contact information handy but if you can't find them on the internet send me an email and I'll dig through my part invoices. I'm sure there are other suppliers for them and maybe even this YT site. Both were very good fits and unlike the issues found with the China stuff. Hope this helps, Hal.

If you DID buy a used one,I would want to REALLY look at it up close and personal. For the price of what a new one cost, the used one would have to be priced low and in REAL good condition for me to consider it!

Most used manifolds I ever looked at really needed to be surfaced on the port side,so ADD tht into the cost of what the used manifold cost, shipping, and it is probably more cost effective to get a good, new one.

Todd, new is probably best unless you can get a decent deal on a used on. The good news is, that the gaskets are not expensive, and usually can be resused if relatively new. Unlike head gaskets, manifold gaskets can be a little more forgiving.

I have a "bone yard" relatively close, so I tend to use old ones, however, I would buy a new one if I needed to. Also, there are certain configurations that you have no choice on, for example, a dual fuel manifold. They don't make new ones.............

Lots of words, but go with what fits your wallet best.............

Bigest problam will be are the threads any good and they can be thin just below the outlet next ti the block this seems to be the place where they do burn thru. To be sure get the new one as most even come with the pipethen you get a good fit for the muffler.
