Belt Pulley Housing

I'm in the process of disassembling my '44 H and was curious about removing the belt pulley housing. Once I remove the bolts holding the housing on, will it just lift off? The only reason I'm removing it is so I can paint and get to the gap under the housing so I can spray paint.

(quoted from post at 20:48:47 01/01/12) I think it has a locator pin, gotta pull that first.

There are two locating pins, no need to pull them first, just pry the housing up, it will come loose.

I have had much better luck pulling those pins first. Just put a nut on
them and crank down until they come out.

It just lifts off maybe with a little help from a thin scraper, or carefully with a screwdriver. No need at all to remove the locator studs.

2 long bolts in the center cannot be removed unless you lift the gas tank. Just loosen them completely and you can take them out with the pulley unit.
Helps to have a second set of hands (muscle) to remove the unit.

Thanks for the input on this issue. I need to remove mine on my 1952 Farmall "H" next summer. It hasn't been used in more than twenty years. When I turn the pulley over by hand I can feel a rumble in the bearings. Any tips on replacing the bearings in the unit?

Thanks everyone. That was easy! I pulled it off about an hour ago. I didn't touch the locator pins, just removed the bolts and lifted it right off.

As a mechanic all my life, I got tired of those belt pulley always being in my way when I wanted to work on various parts of the tractors. I have three of my own now and took all pulley attachments off, threw them in a pile and made a nice plate to put in their place. I know, lot of people don't like that but I do. Oh, sold a good paper pulley to a guy because he liked having it in the way. (looking original).
