Hey im looking for a head for my Farmall F-20. I tried putting a new head gasket on but i didnt seem to do the trick... so im looking for a good head that i can buy to fix my antique tractor. This f-20 has been in the family 4 generations. my gr8 grandpa baught it in fall of 36 and it means alot to me, if you could help me out i would be very greatfull.

Don't know the original problem but if it's just a leaking headgasket you could resurface the head and it should be OK. Have it checked for cracks first.

Not sure what part of the country you are in, but Burgh Implements has 4-5 used heads already off the tractors ready to sell. They have a web site.

ok i can take it in, but i had it together and tightened the head to 90 ft pounds of presure and i ran it and let it sit overnight then strted it today and shot water out the exaust, just like b4 i changed the head gasket

I'll agree the leak probably wasn't the gasket. But what makes you think it's the head? I'd find out what's wrong before I just started trying things.

You'll have to call Burgh's to find out. Ask for John, and tell him that Tom Fleming sent you over.

I also agree with Cowman to check everything out before you start buying things. How does the old girl run? Is it firing on all 4? How is it stored, outside, inside, etc.

Take a good look at the head, especially in the exhaust port areas. If it is firing on all 4 cylinders, AND it runs well, just is beching out water, and you replaced the head gasket, probably not there.

Does the water level in the rad stay constant? Does it drain down? I remember one time when I had my F-20 at a show, I forgot to put a coffee can over the 90 degree exhaust. Rained a couple of days. When I fired her up, she shot sooty water all over the next 3 tractors sitting on the exhaust side. i darn near got skinned by the owners, as they were the "perfect paint job" restorations, and I blew black exhaust water for 20 feet, giving all of them a sooty bath! LOL.

so, give us a little more detail on things, and we can go from there. BTW, welcome to the boards.

Man2013, How much water do you get out of exhaust? Does the engine start? Up north where you are I would think you could have condensation in exhaust! Are you getting water at the spark plugs or in the oil pan? If you pull the plugs do you have water in all cyclinders or just one? Did you spray copper coat on new gasket? Most gasket today ask for coating before install! We need more info! you need to trouble shoot! oldiron29
