656 (not hydrostat) hydrauic noise

I just got a 656 running after several years of setting. The hydraulics seem to be bypassing somewhere at least thats what it sounds like when its just idling. If you are in the process of turning the wheel or using the auxillary it sounds normal. Any one have any suggestions. I'm going to try changing the filter tomorrow but it seems strange that it would get quiet when the hydraulics are beeing used.

Do the hydraulics work or just make noise?
My good friend has a 656 that had a hydraulic problem. We found a low pressure hydraulic tube that is under the seat platform broken. You can look for it by removing the three point top link right above the pto shaft. This tube feeds a manifold that oils the diferential gears. No replacement is available. We removed the manifold and broken tube and brazed it and added in a brace to strengthin it.

Most likley your filters are pluged. Is it cold where you are because if its freezing the water in the filter will freeze and it will make a lot of noise. If its warm before you change the filters take and loosen the drain plug at the bottom just on top of the draw bar and see if water comes out. If it does let it run until you see oil. I try to do that once a year.

If you change the hydraulic filter make sure you use a new gasket on the part you take off to get at the filter. They say that can leak air and make a whine noise.

Thanks for all the input. I finally changed the filter today and it seemed to fix the problem found the screen was full of stuff, and the filter was heavy. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have hytran in it so once I use it a little and can confirm all is OK I'll probably change fluid.
