have a 706 gas that i purchaed receently..looking for a plow.can someone tell me if 4-14s would be about right for the 706 or what u thinking would work for it?

Depends on the ground. On the farm where I grew up, you threw the "X plow tractor" claims out the window. The 756 gas struggled with 4-14s even though the literature claimed it was a "5 plow" tractor.

I've been attending plow days as a spectator for the past couple of years, and I'm amazed at how easy some of that ground plows out. Flat. Mellow.

Our ground looks like someone just set off some explosives at a stone quarry.

All depends on the ground. Im pulling a IH 720
4-18 with my 1468 and at times its struggling. This year espesually i had a hard time keeping the front end on the ground and keeping it from spining out. Tractor weighs 18000lbs and i only plough 6-8 inchs deep.

Thanks Pete..form the response in getting. I was thinking 4-14s but been thinking maybe even 4-16. Our gorund i southern Mn.is black lome soil where we are... some time it plow pretty fair and other times it just shines when it is tiurned over.. thenit is hard plowing... im thinking 4 bottoms.just not sure weather i will go 14s or 16s

You should have no problem with 4-16 behind a 706. Years ago I pulled 4-16 with a Farmall 656 just east of Plainview, MN when I worked for Schultz Imp. If you can find a semi-mount plow like a #540 or a #510 you will do just fine if you use the draft control hitch to transfer a little weight to the rear wheels of the tractor. The picture is of a #535 plow 3-14 that my Dad pulled for years with a Farmall 350 on his farm just south of St Charles. Good luck charlie

Thanks Charlie for the input on the plow,it was very helpful.Being how you work for IH,Iwas wondering if you might be able to tell me how to identify which engine I have. I understand there is a 263..281 and 292 engine. Is ther a place to lok where Ican tellwhat it is..also mine has no TA.

Years ago I pulled a model 412 4x16"s with a 560 diesel it did all right with it except plowing alfalfa. This was in southern SD some of it was in heavy sticky gumbo.
