I recently purchased a 706 gas.It will get an overhaul,but for now i put ina carb kit.thortles up good and ideals smooth.heres the problem..with the lightest load like driving in a higher gear and the speeding up,it smokes blacker than any diesle you ever seen,dont do any good to lean out carb. can aperson put in a smaller main jet..any suggestion will help THANKS

I bet the float is set a little too high.

Just my opinion, but I would check compression, valve lash, ignition system, fuel system and charging system before I would overhaul anything. Not as many engines need overhauls that are thought to need one. A proper going through can solve many, many drivability/operating issues.

awhile back I read something about putting adifferent style shiffter on the 706,possibly from 765 or mw or somthing.Can anyone tell me about that.Mine is 1234 on one handle and r, n, low and high on the other..does one work better than the other? What is the differnce?
