2ond gear high range howls as if it was running in reverse. It also the ideal gear for many chores. Is this a common fault of these tractors? It originally had a 1501 loader, both the tractor and the loader were beat to death. Is this something that is repairable, or do they all make this racket? If I can't get new gears, what tractor family is this unit similar to, so that I might increase my chances at the salvage yard? Thanks, Fritz

Same trans is used in many British IH tractors and some Indian Mahindra tractors. Finding parts ought to be easy, new or used. And no, it's not a common problem.

The same basic trans is used in - B275, 3414 industrial, 424, 434, 354, 444, and probably more.
The much newer Mahindra C4005-DI and C4505-DI tractors also use the same trans.

Well, thanks,LJD... I've worried about this for years because you have to strip the tractor down to nothing to get the countershaft out, and since it doesn't make any noise whatever in 2ond. low, I was afraid I would have to put the whole thing back together without finding anything wrong. thanks again. Fritz
