460 dont start

I will assume it is a gas 460? If so, it might be a fuel starvation problem. Could be the float valve in the carburetor is stuck shut. Could be the fuel inlet fitting screen is plugged. Could be the sediment bowl is full of crud. Could be the fuel is shut off at the sediment bowl. Could be the gas cap vent is plugged. Could be, Do I dare say it? Maybe, just maybe, there is NO gas in the tank?

In addition to what Russ outlined---if freezing or below, could be ice in the air cleaner cup shutting off air supply. Voltage dropping resistor could be going South.

If 12volt with a ballast resistor in the ignition system (white thing near the coil) it can be bad. Running only briefly, then going open. Jim

When the engine quits pull off a plug wire and see if there's fire to your plugs. If you have good fire to your plugs pull off the gas line at the carburetor and see if there' a full stream
of gas from the tank. If there's full stream from the tank you probably need to clean the carburetor by soaking it in carb cleaner and blowing out all the jets with air pressure. Hal
