H cam removal

Hello all,

I am rebuilding a 1941 Farmall H. My grandfather purchased this tractor brand new. Through many trials I was finally able to purchase the tractor and chasing down and engine knock. The center main bearing is melted, but not excessively damaged.

I am trying to remove the oil pump and cam, but find myself feeling pretty confused right now as neither will budge. Does the gear need to be pulled from the cam to get it out? And shouldn't the oil pump simply lift straight out of the block before once I removed the two retaining bolts?

Thank you in advance for your guidance. Have rebuilt several engines in my life, but the last was about 25+ years ago. Feeling a little challenged right now.

The oil pump drops straight down. It feels tight, but you can push it side to side and it will come out. Camshaft can be removed after front cover, It is held in place by two bolts visible through the holes in the gear. Pull it out carefully so that it doesn't drop when pulled free of the rear bearing.

Often I end up tapping on the oil pump base (right by where it bolts
to the block) with a plastic mallet or a hardwood block to get it
started wiggling and then it will drop free.

Dont you need to push the lifters up so they stay up and then the cam will clear at least i need to do that on the 113,123 engines

Yes, the only time I remove a cam is during an overhaul, and I take out the lifters first. Since he has overhauled engines before, I'm sure he knows that, but I should have mentioned it anyway.
