My brother-in-law, father is selling off his tractors since he's renting out their cropland. Well they have two SMTA's. The one SMTA runs but will need a engine overall, along with the clutch replaced and the TA replaced. Tin work is great shape. He thinks the tractor is worth around $2000-$2500, have to realize I'm in Iowa and farmer's think their stuff is worth something even if it doesn't move under its own power.

SMTA's are still in demand. Although it needs repairs, those repairs are common. If the buyer doesn't mind doing the work himself, repairs would run about $2000-2500, but the buyer will probably end up putting $4-$5000 in it if he wants a restored tractor. I think it should easily bring $2500-up as is depending on how bad the person wants it.

Not long ago, (1) SMTA brought 17,000 redone, the other brought 21,500.. soooo.... 2000 or 2500 is reasonable if you already know whats needs done.. the sales were in north central Pa.

I watched one sell at a farm auction three years ago for $3400, didn't run, no sign of paint or straight metal or tires. seen better stuff in the junk yard, don't get it.

I've got $4500. Do you want me to pick them up tomorrow? Go to the Mecum auction site and take a look at what unrestored and restored SMTAs have been selling for.

Where was this sale in pa? Thats my area I go to most all the auctions never seen one bring that kind of money. We had an auction couple years ago sold a smtad for $10500.00 fully restored. If you can get $3500 for a smta around here you done good.

(quoted from post at 04:33:12 12/27/11) Where in iowa any pictures/?

Eastern Iowa, between Maquoketa and Dubuque. No I don't have any photos. But I talk to my brother-in-law I'll ask him for his dad's number.

There was a nice unrestored one on ebay recently that sold for a little over $3800. TA slipped on the low side, but other than that, I don't recall there being any major issues.

It's hard to say right now where the market is headed. I've noticed some previously VALUABLE parts, like good paper pulleys, have severely dropped in price on ebay. 5 years ago they were bringing well over $100. Now, you are lucky to get $50.

I am from dubuque, heading to franzens this week could look for you, and check it out. I teach high school and the ffa kids are looking for a tractor to restore for next year. Just finishing up a Farmall H.

Let me know
