Belt pulley 1948 Farmall H

The housing assembly has to be removed. After you get it off there should be a snap ring holding the bevel gear on the shaft. removing that will let the shaft slide out of the housing. The shaft has to be removed to access the seal. Not a big job.
 
You don't need to remove the entire belt pulley gearbox to change the seal. Remove the bolts that are right behind where the pulley bolts to the flange, the shaft will then slide out. Remove the gear and bearings from the shaft and the you can slide the seal retainer off and change the seal.
