Have a "41 H that used to be a trike, now with a wide front that we found on another "41 for scrap iron price. Its the large cast iron tube and the pitman and the control arm are out front. The brake side has the numbers 5671-DA and the clutch side has the old IHC circular logo. Also has a smaller logo next to that-- a capital M w/ a small c just below the point of the M. (McCormick?) Is this a nice addition to my little workhorse?

It is hard to tell if it will be a worthwhile addition.

I put an IH wide front on my Super C and it transformed it from a nimble tractor into an unwieldy pig to steer. I use the SC mostly for cultivating so the wide front had advantages on vine crops... Your mileage might differ.

Collectors are additcted to wide fronts. If you don't really need it, you might consider selling it on.

We had a wide front we would swap out during planting season on a 200. Some of our ground was deep sand and the narrow front with front mounted planters would overload the C 123 motor pushing the narrow front through the sand. It was a rough go in first gear until we got the wide front. It would do fine in second with the wide front. It was rough to drive and turn with the wide front but did just fine once we were lined up on the row. What you plant with you cultivate with so the wide front stayed on until the crops were laid by then back to the narrow front.

Most of the H and M tractors sent to the UK in the 1940s were wide fronts with the axle set back on the adaptor plate. As well as making them handier to steer the could get more tractors on the Liberty ships coming over the Atlantic dodging the German U boats. MJ

Yes, and no. Wide fronts are better in mud. But how many collectors use their tractors in hard going? I like the looks of wide fronts because that's what I grew up with. I like a wide front for raking hay so I don't drive on the hay. But for handiness I like a narrow front.

The original wide fronts were just an absolute bastage to turn around.

I like the Swartzs(sp?) 'cause they'll almost crawl that front end right back up under 'er belly turning on a dime.

Everyone has a narrow front on everything. Be different with your wide front. Narrow front pedestal for H - $50 wide front - $600
You tell me. Price is a good indicator.....

the old orignal wide fornts look cool, but turn like a turd in a punchbowl. My old W-30 will turn shorter than my dads 42 H with the widefront set out.

is your widefront like this one??

That is the same WFE. Our other H is a narrow front, and it is way easier to drive-- esp. once you learn to use the individual wheel brakes. The old '41 runs like a wind-up watch-- but I'm embarrassed w/ how it looks, so I'm sparing you all the torture of pics until we get it pretty.

From the northwest corner of Oregon, Merry Christmas to all!
