IHC 544 hyraulic drive gear

Does anyone know how to remove the hydro drive gear from a 544 ? I took the end bolt out, have the pump off and the gear is loose on the shaft, but not enough room for it to drop out of the tractor. My shop manual was no help...........

If you are talking about the lower pto drive gear in front of transmission that also drives the hydraulic pump, you need to push shaft to the rear. In order to do that you have to remove the snap ring behind the shaft. You can split tractor between clutch housing and final drive or pull pto out and do it from underneath. I am assuming you are talking about a gear drive tractor and not a hydrostatic drive.

Yes, gear drive. Is there a cover underneath where I can access the snap ring ?

T shaped cover. Not fun job though.
