Farmall H axle seal

Got week between X-mas and new year off hoping to get H into shed and replace leaking axle seal. Just wondering if I should do anything extra while I got it apart possably change outer axle bearing? Also thinking its time to change rear end oil spec all for 90 weight but thinking be easier to run 80w-90 anyone had any problems with this?

You can run SAE 90, 80W90, 85W140 or even straight 140. You can pull the bearing if you want to, but if you can't move the axle up and down with the wheel off, it is probably ok. When I did my Super H I took the axles and housings off and replaced the seals along with the gaskets between the rear case and the housing. I had the bearings out, and decided that they were ok. Currently doing the same thing to my Super M. I did replace the ones in my 460 high utility because I could move the axles.

Be sure to check inner axle bearing... if it comes apart it will bust your rear end housing.

Aaron, I think you are on the right track to replace as many bearings as possible. I have always thought that seals going bad can be related to bearing failure. Ellis
