OK all you farmall guys--working on my HTA-- i am putting a live pump on it and i dont think the bolt holes line up! did they make different front covers -- i have the pump from a 350 and the motor came from an h -- any thoughts ?? I also added power steering --using the small gas tank as the oil supply tank and a hood from a 43 h to acomidate the fill neck -looks good -- thank you in advance and MERRY CHRISTMAS

THe front cover must be from a 19501 and a half or newer engine. The gears in your H engine are not up to the rigors of driving aLive pump. late H SH 300, 350, gears will be fine. Some modify the existing hole spacing and rethread the cover to make it work. Some even use the old weak gears. If they never get used for more than a cultivator, they might last. I would chang cover and gear. Jim

the super h had a different front cover than the h to accomodate the live pump. not sure but possibly the very late h had the newer style cover, the late m had the heavier cam gear and updated cover to accept the live pump.

You need a front cover from a 1950 or newer H, Super H, 300, or 350.

Or, you can figure out how to modify the pump so the bolt hole lines up. It has been done in the past.

if you want to use the h cover, its pretty easy to modify. the m+w live pump kits had instructions in there to do it. check fit your pump first to the cover. the bottom two bolts should line up correctly, the top two will be about 1/3 bolt diameter off center. remove the pump, run two bolts in the top holes, saw them off as flush as you can with the cover, then file them smooth. re-mount the pump, then go in with a drill bit that fits snug inside the pump mounting holes. drill just enough to mark the new centers of where the bolt will be. remove the pump, and drill new holes to accept the tap size. i think the bolts are 3/8 coarse thread. drill as deep as the old holes were, then tap the holes. the pump will now bolt right up. it is advisable to change the camshaft gear to the later style, it was a lot heavier gear. the early gear was thinner an had holes drilled in it. the old gear will fail with heavy hydraulic use.
