Marty is entertaining if nothing else

So Msrty is breaking a '42 M. One of his auctions is the grill. But it is not a run of the mill grill. It is a rare SMTA replacement item.

He probably doesn't understand why there are 16 bids and a current price of $222. With five days left, it will probably go to $500 despite the fact that one of his goons smacked it hard with a piece of flat bar on edge.

It does look alot better than that 400 grill he offered several months ago. I wonder if it got smacked so that he can claim it was damaged prior to bidding and not after the closing. This way he can deny any refund.

When he sees the final bid, he will probably pay a premium for all M's in the future. LOL

When I saw it several days ago, I was thinking I'd submit a proxy bid at around $200 five seconds before the close. Kinda risky because that grill could suffer further shipping damage

If he had titled the auction with "SMTA" there is no telling where the final price would close.

Had to settle for a link rather than a picture. Still haven't figured out how to get Photobucket to accept eBay pictures. Yep, it is on my hard drive. eBay item 180779384954 in case the link is bad. It doesn't look right.

If it goes for $500 I will own it.Bid on it a couple times already just going to wait till the end now.He tried to screw me one time. I do some trucking was near his town so stop to see him like i said I would one day.Things are good now.

Wardner,Does marty sell F12 parts,I bought a set of brake shoes for a F12 and when I received them one was broke in half. His name sure sounds familar. He told me he would check with his guy and let me know, thats been years ago

jimmy

He will sell whatever he drags back to his den. Can't say I have ever seen any F-12/14. I've never seen any Standard Treads either (Wheatlands).

His "checking" is one of his MOs. You have to file a Buyer's Protection Claim to get any action. Unfortunately, that will get you blocked from future auctions.

460anger,

I hope you win. By all means, pick it up. There is a good chance it will be packaged poorly and suffer more damage.

Take some pictures of his operation and share them with us. I don't suggest you upset him. He might very well drive a tractor over your grill even if it is a high dollar item. From what has been reported, he is not very stable.

If it interests anyone, Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch has (as of a week ago) a Super MTA grill. I need a grill for a Super M, he offered me that one, but it is more than I want to pay, although I think the price is fair. Also I would rather not take a SMTA grill when others have problems finding one. Grill is in good condition. 785-548-7437.

I just bought some odds and ends for an IH from him. No shipping update, and poor packaging, but it got to me.

Ebay sent me a few "survey questions" about him, and the transaction. I thought about your posts!

Is this the guy who sells USED bearings??????

He is taking pictures of 60+ year old bearings holding them in his "gloved" hand, camera in the other?????

That SH#T is laughable man !!!!!! LOL

Mike,

Think you are talking about someone else. I am referring to eBay seller Marty2374.

As for holding a part in his hand, that is unlikely. I don't think he has ever actually handled a greasy part. He doesn't like tractors. He can't get the nomenclature right on at least 50% of the stuff he auctions. He does not have the experience to evaluate a part for serviceability. That is probably why thee are no descriptions on anything he sells It's all iron to him and we are all nutcakes.

I estimate he has destroyed over 200 tractors with many parts getting no bids or only one bid. No bids and residue get melted. His ignorance is clearly evident by not properly advertising this SMTA grill.

Last week he trashed an Oliver 1900. That is a highly collectable, and sought after, model as it is powered with a Detroit Diesel 4-53. Total take for the 161 auctions was $2269. 59% of the parts only received one bid or less. He could have flipped that tractor with one auction and grossed more with less effort/expense. Yes, it was a non-runner but all the engine and power train parts were offered without a damage disclaimer.

Marty is clueless. Nowhere is it more evident than his profligate use of his blocking option. He is slowly reducing his market and the number of bids his auctions receive.

wardner, you have me convinced that this guy is a jerk, but you and everyone else simply need to quit patronizing him and force him into scrapping woven wire fence or something. i read on the oliver thread what you said about trying to find a proxy bidder for yourself so you could buy stuff from him and that just doesn't make sense to me. i wouldnt buy something from him if it was the last one on the planet.

Someone else has taken on Marty's business model. I usually do an ebay search of the "Agricultural & Forestry" auctions within 250 miles.

Last night's search, I came across a string of parts auctions starting at $9.99.

The seller's name is "new2youtractorparts," Marshall Machinery out of Honesdale PA.

Bobbyboy,

There are certain aspects to Marty's business plan that I like. His consecutive listings make it easy for a buyer to select and bid the items he wants. Marty does offer discounts for combined shipping. And we never see the same item offered over and over again. Everything is fresh. I also like his avoidance of Buy-it-Now offerings. The "one price fits all" lets the market determine the price. That's a true auction.

There is also a lot that I don't like. They would include:

His adversarial approach to buyers.

His lack of knowledge regarding tractors and machinery in general

His non-existent descriptions

His poor but improving photos

His careless packing that results in lost or damaged parts

His willingness to ship defective parts without a disclaimer.

He could improve his bottom line if he just "took care of business".

I just think anyone who has whined and cried about Mary as much as Wardner has DESERVES what he get when he continues to deal with him.

Rick

I just have to comment. I'm not going to debate wether Marty is a crook or not.
But know this: I was at the sale where the M was purchased by him. IT DID NOT RUN. THE GRILL WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE. HE GAVE $950 FOR THE TRACTOR.
Discuss among yourselves!

oldtanker,

With over 20,000 auctions, Marty is fair game for a discussion of his business practices.

Steelwheeljim,

Thanks for your post.

Was there any mention of the non-standard grill by the auctioneer?

It would be interesting to know why the upper section of the grill was apparently vandalized. It can be repaired or replaced with any M upper grill section so it is not a "deal killer"

I can come up with a few scenarios:

A competing bidder was pi$$ed at the sale or Marty in particular.

Marty refused to part the tractor at the auction so the grill was vandalized out of spite. The vandal knew it would sell high at Marty's auction and be out of his range

An employee of Marty was pi$$ed.

Marty wanted it damaged and photographed because he expected it would be damaged in shipment. eBay's Buyer Protection claims system doesn't allow for buyer submitted photos. Marty is now in a position where he can refuse a refund based on his own photo of damage. His eBay rep would have no choice but to back Marty. Even to the point of deleting a negative feedback.

And so should the sanity of anyone who has given this clown more than one chance to rip em off! And the ones who have gotten new EBAY id's just so they can keep trying to let someone rip em off are in a class by themselves....why don't you just send Marty some money to keep every payday? At least then you would be giving it away instead of getting ripped off!

Guess what? Everyone on here knows that you can run Marty's business better than he can by now. You have told us that many times.

Rick

Opps forgot to add....I've never had any problem with Marty....cause I never gave him the chance to rip me off!

Rick

oldtanker,

Suit yourself. I don't care if you pay five times the value of a Marty auction.

I have probably bought 75 auctions from Marty. Yes, there have been several disappointments but I am financially far ahead. Heck, I even got five items for free and that includes the shipping.

I think you just like goading me as much as I like writing about Marty. The difference is that Marty is a general interest topic and I don't think I fit that category. It's getting personal with you. You need to load up on some eggnog.

Nope yer rants themselves are pretty funny to me! I know several people like you who get all bent out of shape cause they are cheap skates....er frugal and wound up putting more time, effort and money into getting something. Just how many hours have you devoted to Marty both on here and in trying to get things squared away? Don't know about you but my time is worth money and I'm retired. My time here is recreation. I never buy anything I don't get to see first hand cause of horror stories like yours.

The thing of it is you have pounded Marty into the ground and yet keep trying to do it. Yet it seems he still has a steady stream of customers. I don't think you have stopped one person from bidding on his items.

Maybe you need to take your meds while I enjoy that eggnog.

We will make sure thats on your head stone when that stress catches up with you.

I can"t for the life of me understand why you would keep buying from him if he is so bad to deal with. What"s the point? It"s simple, DON"T BUY FROM HIM ANYMORE!!!

Wardner,
The auctioneers had no clue that the grill was off of an MTA. I missed it myself, only recognizing it after a friend told me how much their worth.
None of your guesses as to how the grill got dented are correct.
I know how it got dented. No doubt He uses a large loader with a boom to lift non-running tractors off his gooseneck trailer(that's what he hauls with). He either wrapped the chain around the pedistal, or the frame towards the front. When the chain tightened, it pinched the grill. Most large auction yards he frequents in this part of the country(Michigan,Ohio) use this method to load non-running tractors. I'm sure the ease of loading and unloading like the "big boys" has rubbed off onto him.

Steelwheeljim,

I am familiar with loaders that substitute the bucket for an articulated tapered boom. I beg to differ with your notion that the crease was formed with a chain. It looks to me like a high velocity hit with a dull edged bar. Most likely a two to three foot piece of 1/4" x 2" flat bar. You can see the imprint on the radius of the upper grill stamping. I use "high velocity" because a slower impact of the same amplitude would have spread the damage over a wider area. Perhaps enough to rack the entire grill.

It is curious that Marty wrote [i:168b8169dd]"This tractor was in good original condition and ran very good when dismantled"[/i:168b8169dd]. Don't know who to believe now. If it was a non-runner, I don't think it would have gone to $950 unless the tractor was being bid for the grill. I don't think Marty is knowledgeable about SMTA grills. If he was, he would have used those letters in his auction title.

Wardner,
You may be right, I won't argue. But i've as well as you have seen alot of careless loader damage. I can assure you that there was no hate or sabotage done to the tractor. Very few auction goers know who Marty is and what he does until you tell them.
I'll offer another idea for consideration as to how the grill got dented. Since he hit 2 auctions in 2 days, he problably stacked alot of equipment on or around the tractor on the load.
Anyway, good luck with him.

got one no dents make me an offer lol

That solid plate on the bottom is interesting. BTW, I've got one for sale here in WI as well.
