Question for Jim / JAnicholson

Jim; My H wasnot charging for a long time. Thanks to your advice, I 'field-flashed' my H 12 volt Delco alternator, and it began charging again, up to about 14.6 volts at the batrtery.
My question is, have I fixed something? Or have I just found out that I need to go and fix some other thing?

I believe that an alternator rotor can hold residual magnetism
I also believe that (if wired as a 3 wire system as described in Bob M diagrams, that it does not need the residual because it gets fresh new voltage to make NSNSNS around the rotor poles.
One wire setups might take longer to self start if left for a long time. Solid state devices (as in your regulator) are at times strange in operation. There could also have been a connection that "flashing it" bridged. Even if I were standing there, it is ompossible to see the junctions and contacts being used. So the answer would be tha same either way.
It is working, Use it. Thanks for asking. Jim
