original M value

I have a 52 M, that looks like a time capsule from 52, original everything, plug wires, muffler, seat, tires front and rear, no sign of wear on the shifter knob or clutch pedals, perfect sheet metal one small dent to the lower grille, other than that it is just the way ih sold it, must of just been used as a pto tractor. is it worth any more because of this originality, it is just an M, but it is one of the best ones I have ever seen.

I'd pay a premium for one like that. Then the next guy wants to buy a junker and spend $5000 fixing it up. We can't all be the same.

To the right person it would be. If its late enough to have disc brakes from the factory also a little more to some. More for a M may not be a great deal of money though.

I would agree, if it truly is all original and in the shape you indicate, it is worth a premium......a fairly substantial premium. To the right person, you may be shocked at what they would be willing to pay.

Any chance you can post some pictures?

If I didnt already have an M I'd be very interested in it. When I started in the hobby of collecting I wanted them all to look new, but they lose all their character. Now I'd prefer well kept originals. My cub is all original except someone spray painted the area around the gas cap (wish theyd left it alone). Even so I think I paid more for it then most would. The biggest thing for me is the smell (some may think Im crazy). Restored tractors just dont have the same "worked" smell.

At the two cyl.John Deere show in Grand Detour,Il.this year there were a couple of Survivor tractors and they brought a lot of attention, they are only original once so I would think you could get a premium price for it.That being said,it's probably only worth in the range of $2500-$3000 in my area. Most sell for $1500-$2000.

I am going to get some pics. of it and let ya see what you think about it. will get them on here today, if my computer skills will allow.

I'd say it's definitely worth more - any tractor can be restored, but the number of those that look great in their original skin does nothing but shrink every year.

But the antique tractor market just isn't commoditized enough to say that an M in X condition is worth Y more than Z condition.

Pricing is very much based on location, luck, and timing.

Because of the weight of these things, you're not selling to a national market, the sales are typically very local. If not, whoever's buying it has to factor in a pretty steep transport charge any way you slice it.

So that limits the number of potential buyers, but also limits the 'supply' to those around you. In other words, if somebody near you wants an M in original condition, they have to buy YOURS since it's the only one around. (and if you live in a very sparsely populated area, they may simply be NOBODY that wants an original M!)

So when selling it, put some thought into promoting it for it's unique condition, and don't be afraid to price it high.

You'll have plenty of people telling you it's not worth what you're asking, those are just the people who don't want it badly enough.

Be patient and somebody who does want it badly enough will eventually come along.

The price can always be lowered if need be, it's very hard to go the other way though!

It seems unless they are a Super MTA,MTAD,High Crop,or some other "LOW NUMBER"/"Odd optioned"tractor, there seems to be a "ceiling"on the value???

The fact that it is an ORIGINAl,probably low hours like you say. Sounds like it would put you right up against that "ceiling!" Cant wait to see the photos.
