I've been bitten.....

Well sort of. I am going to look at a TD-9 that is complete with front blade. The engine was overhauled and a can put over the muffler but the can rusted out and water got into two pistons. The head is off. What do I need to look for in the track/undercarriage for wear and what do you guys think is a fair price.

Thanks

The track pins and rollers wear on the drive side and the wear is easily seen where the drive sprocket touches the rollers. The teeth of the drive sprocket should not be pointy, they should look symetrical. Lift it off the bogies and see if they are loose on their shafts. If it is a cable operated system it is scrap price only, they are difficult at best, and a pain to operate with no down pressure. The biggest issue other than tacks is the condition of the master clutch, steering clutches and brakes. These cannot be checked W/O running it!
Remember scrap price is pretty high on this iron, and the transportation costs are serious. Do you have a need? Really! That serious!~!!? OK do it.

Let me know if you need a pair of 4.4" pistons. I have a pair of iffy ones and a pair of good ones. Then I bought that parts engine with 4.4"s from way up north. Then I just bought an unknown TD-9 engine complete with head and injectors from the scrap yard on Friday for $150!!! I am going to put a post up just to brag about it when I get the time to upload the pictures.

I don't have anything completely apart yet. I also have not measured any sleeves for taper/out of round yet. I also will have to hook d282 up with parts because he sold me the WD-9 and he is a good guy. But be sure to ask me again in a month or so. I should have them all apart and in the shop by then.
