574 power steering revisited

While using my 3 pt. today, something blew a gasket
or O ring at the control valve. Dumped a lot of
fluid really fast under pressure.
I haven't had power steering but everything else
worked, at least brakes and 3 pt. (haven't had
anything hooked to the remote outlets yet). This was
leaking when tractor was purchased but supposedly
fixed. Is something blocking flow and blowing O
ring? Is the lack of power steering and blown O ring
related problem?

Hi Kevin, the 574 has an open center hydraulic system, meaning there should be no load on the hydraulic pump when all control valves are not being used. For the 3pt circuit the high pressure oil should come out the bottom right port on the MCV valve flow up under the seat to draft control then unto remote control valves and return via draft control to second port from bottom on right side of MCV valve to be filtered before entering the pump again.
If the tractor engine is being loaded by the hydraulic pump when no hydraulic control valve is being used then there is a problem somewhere.

I have ordered a service manual so I can have a reference to help me while getting advice.
I removed the remote valve unit but don't see anything obvious. I see where an elbow was recently replaced. Local dealer mechanic said he could go thru remote unit for me in less than 1/2 hour, so I guess I'll let him take a look while I have it off, although sounds like I must have something else going on.
Not sure what you mean about engine being loaded by pump. I haven't noticed it loading, even when I tried pulling up on the remote lever without anything attached to try to pop loose the flow divider as instructed. Didn't hear the pump squeal either. When I dumped the fluid I was using the 3 pt. but didn't have a load on it at the exact time of rupture. Hopefully that book will come in this week and i can troubleshoot the system.
