Jerking Farmall 706

We have a Farmall 706 on a small farm. Every once in a while it stops like the clutch is pressed in than jerks like releasing the clutch fast. The problem is it happens without even touching the pedal and only when it is NOT pulling (like disking or a large load of hay/grian) If it is pulling it doesn't jerk. we think it is a bad TA but we don't know for sure or how to fix/replace it if it is. Any help will be useful

It could be that you have plugged filter on your hydraulic system. At low rpm you will notice that the power steering cuts out too. The filter is below the brake pedals on th right side. Check your owners manual.

If the jerking occurs when the handle is back, and not when it is forward, then maybe you can isolate to a potential TA issue. If the jerking occurs when the TA is forward or back, then it's likely not a TA issue.

I check the hydraulic system first, You could be losing pressure, thus causing the clutch to disengage. Or your t/a could be out of adjustment, refer to the manual on how to adjust the t/a. However, If you do decide to replace the t/a I would recommend that either you A have someone that knows what they are doing do (A t/a Needs to be properly adjusted, If you adjust it the wrong way it will soon again fail/slip) Or if you don't know anyone that knows their way around a T/A Pick up a service manual and post up here if you have any questions WHATSOEVER

I had the same thing happen on my 706. If I touched the brakes it would take right back off. What fixed mine was to remove the MCV and rebuild it. Kit was about $80. I also had no pressure on a gage when I put a gage where the sensor is located at the back side of the MCV. It should read about 15-20 PSI with the clutch engaged and Zero PSI when you disengage the clutch. The linkage needs to be adjusted properly on the T/A also. With the tractor running and you shift the T/A lever the gage will surge quickly to 0 then return to 15-20 PSI if all is correct. I got this advise from this site when I had the problem.
