fuel filter

Farmalls, super M and H. Anything you would recommend along side the sediment bowl for a fuel filter? It seems my tank has alot of crap in there. Is there a paper, in-line filter to use with these bowls?

The sediment bowl with a screen in the top is more then enough to do the job and in line filters clog up easy and cause problem due to the fact there made for system with a fuel pump most of them that is

if you have a lot of junk in the fuel tank, steiner tractor parts has a fuel tank screen that fits in the top of the sediment bowl and works inside the fuel tank. they are 8.50 each, part number abc1315. i just put one in my h that has a rusty fuel tank and it works well. if you want a filter after the sediment bowl, go to napa and get a 3031 or 3032 in line fuel filter. its a metal disposable filter for a gravity flow fuel system.

I replaced the screen and gasket in My M this summer. Part #s are 355888R2 for gasket and 13194D for the screen. Cost $6.79 total. The thing I did not like is I had to tighten the glass bowl tighter than tight to get it not to leak.

if a person has to use a filter , the inline filter from a lincoln sa 200 welder is the cats meow.it is about the size of a cigar and does not require a lot of volume as those auto inline filters that like to get air locked.

Rather than clean up gas from a crud filled tank you might consider cleaning up the tank. Rust and other sediments can be removed and a liquid epoxy liner placed using one of many kits. I have used one from Eastwood and was very satisfied with the results on a tank that had been filled with rain water for a number of years. Follow the link to take a look.

I use the see thru plastic ones from Fram but they will get plugged if your tank is dirty as they sure do collect the fines the sediment screen lets thru. but they are easy to change. Some put a short standpipe on top of the sediment fixture. Sounds like you need to remove the tank and have it cleaned.

There is no in-line filter that will do anymore than what the sediment bowl does, provided that the fine mesh screen is still in place in that sediment bowl. Just watch the glass bowl. When the crud starts to collect in the bottom, remove it and clean. Pull that round fine mesh screen out also and clean it. Eventually most of the crud that is in the tank now will be flushed out and will have been captured in the sediment bowl.

If it's really that bad, get the tank cleaned. You'll thank yourself later.

Original style screen does a good job. Make sure the screen fits properly and is not torn.

Inline filter will work, but won't catch much more than the screen. There's a paper filter that fits inside [b:78b7f35681]some[/b:78b7f35681] sediment bowls that may help, too.

I say bite the bullet and remove the tank and clean it out. It's not that much work.

You don't HAVE to line it, but you'll be going through half the motions to clean it anyways, adding the liner would be easy.

Trying to solve the problem with a filter is only going to end in clogged filters, screens, and gas lines - not to mention extra gas leak points.

Do it right the first time and you can ignore it for another 10 years.
