Dad bought a 1974 966 diesel at an auction on Saturday. Got a couple of questions. Is the PTO lever the normal lever? What parts do I need to stop the leaking primer pump? Anyone ever seen this type of auxilliary diesel tank. It makes getting on and off much easier. Also I need a new tach due to the face is really cloudy anyone have a source for a tach or idea of price on a new tach

You need upper o ring GA 407748 and GA 404762 is lower o ring. Unscrew barrel from pump, pull out plunger, clamp shaft in vice just under knob, then unscrew knob. Push plunger out of barrel to replace plunger o ring, top o ring goes next to hex for knob to seal against with hold down screw. If copper gasket looks bad, part number is GA 404770, all are AMBAC parts, IH may be able to cross.

Hey!

That's a darned nice lookin' tractor! Late model with the heavy front end and the long axles.

PTO lever is normal; just missing the knob. You can buy a kit for that manual pump. Last one cost me $50. :>(

Real nice looking 966, that would be hard to find in that condition. I never seen a fuel tank like that before it probably works good but i would take it off my self. Just doesnt look like it belongs. Good luck with the tractor, Erik..

Craig if I can ask how many hrs are on it what year is it and what did you have to give I also have a 966 for sale just not trying to over or under price it Thanks Kevin.

You should shut off fuel, there are check valves in supply pump, but don't count on them to hold fuel while you have it apart. Call 574 893 4172 after 7 PM if you have any trouble.

My 1066 had a hazy tack face, I went to NAPA and bought a headlight restore kit, it still has a yellowed look but I can read the tack now.

Nice. Bought one about a year ago, with cab and loader for 2500. Put a new tire on it along with 2 new rear rims (preventive measure). Not as nice looking, but does the job for me. Just need to replace the batteries now.

I bought a 74 966 about four years ago. Mine don't look that good. It runs well and does everything I want it to do. Thats all that matters. It is true, They don't make em like that anymore.

Real nice 966. Year-A-Round company built those type of step tanks back in the 70's possibly into the 80's. I have only seen a few of them. They also built after market cabs and I think they were based out of Mankata, MN, don't know if thye are still in business or who bought them out. There cabs were similar to the Hiniker brand.

I found a tach lens somewhere doing a google search. Its tricky getting the chrome ring off but ptience is the key word. Get that little gasket on perfect or the needle will hit it and you have to take it all apart again BTDT
You will love that beast. Get some ear muffs and wick it way up.
Got tires?
