M cam number question for Mr. Slater

Hi Dave,
I pulled a cam out of a C-281 engine that shows a number 9315 D. The engine block shows 365586R1 with a date code of 11-16-N. N is supposed to be 1944. They did not make a 281 in 1944. There is also a bolted plate on side which I assume would be for an LP setup. I'm thinking it's a replacement block. I have never seen any information anywhere showing when this cam was made. Any ideas????
Thanks for the help,
Charles

Think thats a old cam Charles. IH used parts from more than one soarse sometimes and the number on the part may be different than the parts listings. Block casting 365586R1 was used as a replacement block a lot. Interestingly that block casting # can be found with the size C248, C264 and C281 cast on it. All I was inside have the same bore size even if it has C248 on it. Lots of times the casting numbers are ground off when engine was installed. Plate is for a fuel pump mount, a push rod went across engine from pump to cam.
That N would be 1967. What number is on the cam gear?

Never saw that cam gear # before. would probably be from the sixties. Have me wondering on the cam now. That # should have right hand cam nut threads, are they?
RPM1941 worked IH parts for years, maybe he can help.

You have me stumped, never saw the cam or gear parts or listing for a tractor or power unit.
Have heard of some industrial natural gas engines in the southwest with strange parts but never saw one.

I think you are correct in saying its a replacement block, the cam gear number is the curious part, that number is for a C-Super C-240, is this stamped on it or where did you find this number. All the cam gears & cams for the engines are press fit key way drive, they changed the retaining nut to left hand thread to counteract the rotation so they wouldnt come loose, they had to do this for the added load when they went to live hydraulics cam driven.

RPM1941 never thought about the parts being from a different engine. Think Charles has some engine parts mixed up. His cam # is for a 113 engine also. cam gear is probably a later replacement for the 113 cam that was used about the time of the 404 engines.
Thanks for clearing that up.

Guys, You are right. I had some parts mixed up. I had lent the cam out of the 281 to a friend last year and had forgot about it until today. Boy, it was driving me crazy. Sorry about the confusion. Seems I was the only one that was comfused. :)
