hytran in super c?

Anybody use the Hytran from tsc in the tranny/rear end rather than an 80/90 gear oil? Any problems with doing this?

Hytran is what was recommended by my local dealer for an A that I am working on, since the TSC brand is compatable with Hy-tran, That is what I put into her. Hope this helps.

While this is the current recomendation from IH. I still prefer 80-90 in them. The only rears I run HyTran is ones that have TAs. The rest I prefer the thicker oil. When you press in on the clutch the gears will stop spinning in 8-10 seconds. With HyTran, you will take more like 15-20 seconds.

Listen to Brian,

UNLESS IT has a Torq Amplifier in it,(Which your Super C does not!)DO NOT run HYTRAN in it.

It would be like putting ATF in the differential of your 69 Roadrunner.(either 8 3/4 OR DANA 60,You choose??) They BOTH will lubricate, but not NEARLY as good as the 90 wt will !!!!

Brian is correct -- do NOT use Hytran or equivalent in that transmission. Gear clash and noise is bad enough as it is. I have 85-140 in my Super A. The HyTran equivalent is fine for the hydraulics though.

249, Many current CaseIH service people know very little about the letter series. They are well schooled in modern tractors. You don't want Hytran in a transmission of a tractor that does not have a TA.

Absoulutely!

I had an IH dealer tell me to put HYTRAN in the gear case/rear axle of my Super M!This guy has been working there for years! I am glad I researched THAT one a little more!!! I gurantee it would have shortened the life of the trans/rearend bearings.

If hytran would shorten the life of a Super M, then how come Super MTAs, 400s, 450s, and 560s are still running strong? The transmission and differential in those tractors is essentially the same as a Super M's.

Yes and the gears turn forever, 90 weight slows the gears and makes shifting easier. I have to wait about 10 seconds for the gears to stop turning in my 460 if I have to let out the clutch for some reason before shifting. I did slow it a little by using 20 weight trans/hyd fluid. Hytran is the equivalent of 10 weight. Still no comparison to 90 weight.

Agreed for the most part.

You "can" put hytran in it but I wouldn't. It costs more and given its age the 80/90 weight is probably "better" given the wear and tolerances in the gears meshing at this stage of its life.

It probably wouldn't hurt it either unless you plan on hooking it to a plow for days on end.

You have a point there. I don't know which would be better, but the weight of the oil really has less to do with how well it lubricates than some other properties of fluids. However when it comes to leaks, it may be a different story.

NO!

I know the MTAs have different tolerances inside them.(At least from what others have posted on here.)

You CANNOT run 90 wt in an MTA,400,450 !!!!

It would be the equivilent of putting 90 wt in an automatic trans!Smoke the T/A

HYTRAN is NO comparison to gearlube as an ACTUALL "clinging" gear lube.(like a 90 wt 140 weight grease.) You use HYTRAN because you HAVE to in certain situations.

The WHOLE reason for running HYTRAN (AKA; A variation of ATF) is to keep from destroying the planetarys. Those planets wont live in gear grease. You couldnt even shift them in 90 wt.(try that on a 40 deg or less day!) Also,in newer tractors,90 wt will not work as hydraulic fluid either.

The ONLY other factor is the LOW RPM of the final drive. If the rear axles were a "high speed" rear end like a car, they wouldnt make it.

Newer cars do use ATF in their transmissions, but the tolerances are different.

End of story:If it doesnt have a T/A,DO NOT use HYTRAN! Unless you live in ALASKA and the tractor usually runs in -20 weather all the time.
