Moving rear Wheels To A Narrower Setting

I need to move the rear tires on my IHC Super M to a narrower setting. The tires are loaded. The wheels have pillow blocks holding the wheel to the axle.

Does anyone know of a slick way to do this job ? I need to move each wheel about five inches inward.

Thank you for any suggestions you might have.

The way I do it:

Stick a standard 2 ton floor jack under the side of the U bar on which side you want to slide in first and lift it up.Just jack it up enought to clear a "pick bar" under the tire.(LONG bar,6 ' works good.)With the clamps REALLY loose(what you are calling"pillow blocks") stick your bar under the bottom edge and pick up on it.Just keep "edging" them in in small increments. They SHOULD move right in.It helps me to mark the axle with a "sharpie marker"cause I usually pass up the place I wanna be on accident.:)

Oh yea,be sure and chock opposite side so she dont roll off.(ANd I will assume you are doing this on a LEVEL surface.Just sayin.)

What Mike said,

Oil up that axle good and the darned things will just "jump" in with a little bit of leverage.

One more thing,be sure to lube your bolt/ threads on your wheel clamps(2 inside,2 outside the wheel.)

After you have moved your wheel, retighten all 4 bolts EVENLY! If you leave ANY of them loose, you are asking for trouble !!!! retorq them AGAIN after awhile of running tractor !

After cleaning and oiling axle, Thread a chain under the axle on the inside, then up to the top of the wheel and go though the spoke opening and then hook the chain together around a spoke. Then rotate the wheel shaply and it will walk right in.
I sold a SH to a fella about a tear ago and he had it narrowed up and on his trailer in about 5 minutes doing this.

and again and again and again. I've had a wheel center still work loose days after putting the tractor back together. And those were full days pulling a disk, I'd stick a wrench on them 3 to 5 times a day.

don't know about M, on C the axle clamp is 2 parts a wiggly part and a fixed part. be sure that the fixed part is on top of the axle, when you slide the wheel and you will have less problems.

Technically bolts are a one use item. I would guess yours were just worn out so they couldn't tighten as good as a new one.
