Farmall super C

The Super C won't start with the starter even though it spins the engine over really fast. If I pull it for 2 feet and pop the clutch it fires right up and runs great. Any Advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

If it is a mag, it might have a hanging impulse coupling. If it is a distributor, It might be a weak coil, or a bad (high resistance) ignition switch or connection in the wires.
Check coil voltage when cranking if less than 9 volts on a 12v system, or 4.5 volts on a 6 v system it might have a hard time starting. When pulled there is full voltage. Jim

Mine was doing that when I bought it back in 1999, I started turning the gas off at the tank and leting the engine run until it burn what was in the carb. haven't had any problems since, the owner that had it before me always pulled it to start it.

My changed to 12V 240U would take several spins to start for the first couple of years I had it... changed points, plugs and condensor and didn't help. A while back my starter went bad and the guy that rebuilt it put 12V windings in the starter and now it starts so fast I can't believe it... if yours has been changed to 12V without changing the starter to 12V, maybe that's your problem.

Your timing is off better start with the plugs out and the tappet cover off so you can see when the motor is on TDC and where the rotor os pointed when its on TDC with the plugs out you can see when the piston is at the top and the valves are closed. Get a good mag lite or one who can lite up the area in the cycl. Your timing is either too far advanced or too far retsrded its just that simple.

I would second what Jim suggested you're probably dropping the voltage too much using the starter. Your battery may be getting weak or your starter is pulling too much current and there's not enough for your ignition. Hal

Sounds like the starter is drawing the battery voltage down too much.

We had the same thing. Super C with a 12V conversion wouldn't start with the starter, but fired right up with a quick tug from another tractor.

Tried the starter off a different tractor, and it started right up. So, I picked up a used one off ebay cheap, and got lucky. The ebay starter works just fine and the tractor starts right up, no muss no fuss.

Try feeding 12V straight to the coil.

(quoted from post at 07:54:45 12/16/11) If the condenser is bad there isnt any spark so pulling all day still wont make it run.

If the condenser is only marginal and not failed completely it can function enough with full battery voltage to allow the engine to run. While cranking the voltage available drops down enough that there is not enough voltage available from the coil to, provide a good spark. A twelve volt system that uses a bypass on the resistor while cranking will not have this problem because the available voltage will actually be more than what is available during normal operation.

It still has the 6 volt system on it and the timing is spot on. So I will start with the testing at the coil and the simple and cheaper things, condenser, Thanks for all the information guys.

I have a 200 that had the same problem. Would not start with starter, but would start easily with the hand crank. New coil fixed it.
