I have this, what seems like a seperate tank on my "H" Can anyone tell me what it is for sure, and what it was or is used for? I have always wondered but am finally asking.

Thanks, Cole

It's your air cleaner. Brings the air through the glass jar swirls it and pulls it through oil and helps clean the air. Should clean the bottom part of it out. It takes 30 weight oil.

No, it isn't. The air cleaner is on the other side. The tank in the picture is in the correct position to be the small, gasoline starting tank used on the distillate/kerosene models, but the bottom of the starting is concave, not convex like in the picture, and I do not see the small fill cap that would be present on a starting tank.

its in the spot the gas starting tank goes, but its not that . seems like someone manufactured an extra filtering system for the engine.

It kind of resembles one of those "luberefiners" more often found on large diesel trucks.

Looks like the remants of the Luberfiner Co. oil filter to me. The IH filter was replaced with a plate with 2 steel lines coming out of it, I think I remember that correctly. But I dont recall the Luberfiner being that big.

Are there any lines going to it or are there fittings that are capped off? Someone may have used it to expand the hydraulic system capacity for a loader or something. I'm betting on the Luberfiner though, because I don't see a breather on top.

That is what I was thinking also Rusty.
I think these come in different sizes???
A diesel mechanic I used to work with used to put these on EVERY diesel he built. The ones I saw he used looked similar, but were chrome plated.

Reminds me of an oil filter I had on my 806 diesel. The filter was three rolls of toilet paper. Do not remember the manufacturer. Back about 1965 when I installed it. Did seem to keep oil cleaner though.

Would that have been a "Frantz"? Quite a few of those were installed on engines that came from the factory WITHOUT an oil filter, and yes, the Frantz did use rolls of toilet paper as the filtering medium.
