IHC 4cyl power unit

Bought a 4cyl IH power unit on a buzz saw. Serial No. B55 33XX. What model engine is it and where do I find a book for it. Was told it came off of a windrower. Has a 90 degree pto to the left side of the engine with a pulley for a flat belt. Thanks. Doug

You need the I-H part # on the block thats behind the filter. Some engines had a clutch some had an output shaft some had pulleys but the part# will tell you the cu in.

Okay, there's no number behind the filter(it sits down in the block on RH side), but there is a number on the LH side above the oil pan, 251341R6. It's a flathead engine and it has IH carb & mag.

I typed before I thought. I looked up the casting dates on the head & block, both 6/53. So its the same engine as a cub, but does the B55 XXXX ser. no. make it from a 55 baler with auxiliary engine?

I seen a 55T baler not too long ago with a CUB engine and had a starter right angle belt but most balers had no clutch they just loosened up the belt to start with a starter if the engine had starter or crank. All the 55W if hae ever seen used the U-2 which was the 113 or later 123 OVH valve engines.Ive never seen a Cub on a 55W.

Flathead engine with filter in the block. Sounds like a Cub engine. Looked at my parts info and 251341 it the part number for a Cub crankcase (engine block)

I have seen the C-60 on combines, but I am not sure it would have enough ummmph to run a baler. just my $.02 worth.

If the manifold is on the left side of the flathead engine and the distributor on the right, it's most likely the C-60 [Cub] engine. If it's reversed, I believe it's the Continental power unit. To the best of my knowledge, these were the only two 4-cylinder flathead power units that IH sold...but I could be wrong about that.

Thank you guys for all your help. Didn't mean to double post last time. Got the info I need, now I can tune it up and change the oil. Engine looks complete and in good shape, just needs some TLC. Think I'll just put in the corner of the shed, so if anyone needs one sometime let me know.

dkattau, where are you located and how much would you like to get out of the engine?
