age old question - whats it worth?

I have the opportunity to look at a 1938 F-14. Supposedly orginal paint and decals. Replacement motor. Electric start. I havent seen it in person yet. I read F-14s were an improved F-12 and made only 2 years before the switch to letter series. So....what should i look for? Are these "rare" being made only two years? Does the replaced motor detract from any value or collectabilty? I know its only worth what your willing to pay for it but i still need some idea where to begin...thanks!!

if is an original motor and starter is correct starter alone is worth $500 and up if in good shape. might check to see if it has correct genn. bracket , what rear wheels, any thing broken, and dont ever give up location it might not be there when you go back.

Well, this summer, I bought a mostly original 1938 F-14, rear steel, front rubber. Most of the decals in surprisingly good shape. Not running. Crack in exhaust manifold. Otherwise, all there. bought it at a farm estate auction. $650. Brought it home, cleaned out the fuel system and freshened up the mag. Starts and runs great. compression feels like it has been rebuilt at some point with high altitude pistons, as it has twice the compress of my '37 F-12

If yours has the options on it that you say, and they are "correct", I wouldn't hesitate to spend at least $1000 on it. However, you didn't state whether it is running or not. Also, rubber or steel wheels. Has the fuel system been modified. Does it have shutters? If rubber, what condition are the tires. Depending upon what diameter rears you have, you can expect to pay up to $600 per tire if 40" ones.

Cue, Is that the one in willington, MA. I have seen picture but did not say eletric start. Right now on Ebay F-14 ES bellhouseing and ring gear has bid for 900.00 I have seen complete ES parts on a pallet sell for over 1500.00 complete with all switch genny and starter and gauge.
If it has all the ES parts thats worth more than the tractor. F-14 are not rare! they are easy to find. A running tractor in good shape worth about 1000.00 Not running 400-500 . oldiron29

...dont ever give up location it might not be there when you go back.

I think you can give a state, but I would never answer the "Is that the one in Willington, MA" question!
