distributor advanc springs IH distributor.

Unless you have springs packaged with the part # there's not a sure way to tell unless distributor is run on a distributor machine. Or with a timing light and the correct degree markings added at the crank pulley on some models. Along with RPM readings.
Sometimes the springs can be matched with a known set or also by color sometimes. Some springs that came in the distributors are no longer available so checking with a machine or light for what you want to run is best.

To add to Dslater's comment(Which is VERY good!)I dont know what model tractor your distributor goes in,so I will use an "M" as an example:

These are LOW rpm engines. So,If the MAXIMUM rpms were 1500(just using 1500 as an example!!!!),the distributor is only turning 750 rpm at the VERY most. In the world of distributors, this aint much.

You are trying to achieve full mechanical advance of the distributor at Wide Open throttle. The fly weights in the distributor are limited to how far they can go because they will bottom out against a stop inside the distributor.Anything under that can be changed by changing the weight/tension of those springs. This will affect your power curve under the maximum rpms.

In other words, lighter spring tensions will allow full advance at lower rpms, higher tensions will require MORE rpms to gain full advance.

Like previously posted,on a distributor machine you can actually "tune" this to taylor it to your likings.I dont know what you are doing with this tractor, but on a "stock tractor" this is really not to critical. If you are a "puller",it could help to gain some more "low end' in your engine.

The serial number really doesn't matter because your tractor originally had a magneto ignition system. Kinda makes it even more complicated doesn't it?

That distributor originally came with springs 358108R91 and a 30 degree maxium advance measured at the crankshaft. H tractors that came with a distributor originally had a 40 degree crank advance. But if a power improvement package or a fire crater piston package was installed in the past they may be changed internally from what was original.
Hard to sit here and tell you what you need.

James,
The "IT" manual "IH-8" has a chart that will tell you the proper distributor springs.

I don"t believe there is a reliable way to identify the springs you have (unless you have the tension specs and a gauge) but you can get a new set at CIH. (One note: If you buy new springs, don't calculate the cost per pound; it will only depress you. Ha!)
Hope this helps,
