Farmall precleaners

Why did some Farmall tractors have the Donaldson precleaners (w/jar) on them and otehrs only had a cap? Is there a reason behind this? I have a Farmall Super H with the cap but I have seen others with the Donaldson precleaner assembly on them.

Yes there is a reason,It just depended on how much debris the application of your tractor would be sujected to. The pre cleaner would catch that first. Plus i would imagine the donaldson would cost more than just the cap.

Exactly! The Donaldson pre-cleaner was an extra cost option, and I suspect that most of them were dealer installed, or purchased through the dealer and owner installed.

Mine is a Donaldson, but they call it a "prescreener".Obviously not the "Ball jar"type It is taller than most I see on an M.I see the pieces for it listed in the on line parts manual.

Was there supposed to be any oil in the little Ball jar,or not????

no oil in jar as it collects the heavier dust. from what i have seen is the early models had just the cap type and later ones the jar type.

In dusty conditions like summer fallow the oil bath cleaner alone would have to be cleaned nearly every day. The pre-cleaner was designed to catch the large bulk of the dirt first and the jar was simple to see and dump.

Yea,I hear that happens sometimes when you have to follow those 2 cylinders on plow day? They get "lodged" in your air intake. :)

Thanks DeltaRed.I think she looks good for a "worker tractor". I just hate to put the REAL pretty paint job on it and take it out mowing and under the tree branches.

Mechanically,she is tight!

Why,yes it is Kevin.2 of them. One BEING finished and One being "readied for deployment" :)

I have been known to "Drink and Grade",but I HIGHLY reccomend to do it in moderation!!!!

Farm Machinery AINT no game!
