This engine is in a Asplundh Chipper. U2A Sre.# U-AA-24699 Also I found these numbers on the block along with the letter L #356318R2 If this has to be replaced, I don"t know what to use. Also, how do I remove the front pulley?, I thought a puller alond with heat. What is the age?

U2A would be a C123 engine - same basic engine used in the Super A/C wheel tractors.

Approximate age can be determined by checking date codes on the block, head, etc. It will tell you the day/month/year the casting was poured in the format (day) * (month) * (year).

Day and month codes are numeric. Year codes are:
1948 - R
1949 - S
1950 - T
1951 - U (also perhaps V and W)
1952 - X
1953 - Y
1954 - Z
1955 - A
1956 - B
etc...

That serial number is 1952. The front pulley is pressed on and very difficult to remove. You need to use a large bearing splitter so the puller doesn't put pressure on the rim of the pulley. Doing otherwise will break it. You can search for threads on removing the pulley from a Farmall A. The procedure is the same and there has been plenty of discussion.

Jim, I can't thank you enough for the quick response to my question "what engine is it" very helpful. Thanks again, Butch
