Looking at a 51 m,It hasnt run in ten years or more.It has been stored inside. It is converted to 12 volts.Tin is good,it has an M&W add-power govener. Also has a John Deere 45 loader mounted on it.Seller says it ran great when he used it last.Front tires look fairly new, rears have weather cracking,60% tread.Probably would run with a new battery and a half days tinkering. He is firm at $1100.00,do you think thats too much? Thanks Jim

He'll get the $1100 or he'll keep it. I know because I'm from Iowa and I know how alot of these farmer's are. What part of the state are you located?

I agree it is too high for a non-runner, however I also agree that he will probably keep if it he can't get $1,100 for it. Seems like everyone in IA knows tractor restoration is popular here and thinks any plain old H or M is rare and worth the price of gold, no matter the condition.

I picked up a '42 M this past summer in SE Iowa for $1100. It runs real good and has decent sheet metal. I have always said I would never pay more than a $1,000 for an H or an M just because there are soo many of them around, but this one had brand new front and rear tires and rear rims so I made an exception!

That asking price really is not that far off. If it were me buying it, I would want to either hear it run first, or be assured it WILL run. The weathered rear tires concern me also, but the amount I would want to deduct for the tires is probably offset by the loader, so I guess if I wanted it bad enough, I'd just cough up the $1,100 and be happy.

(quoted from post at 09:06:45 12/03/11) He can get 300 for the loader

And more than $300 for that governer!

I would buy it at that price today. You could try 10 bills cash with your trailer in tow, but $1100 would be just fine.

Ellis, I agree. Let's face it, that tractor is worth around $800 as scrap metal. And that M+W governor is worth $300+ it seems on ebay. I paid $1000 for a super C that needs Overhaul this summer. I thought I was nuts, but if you look at it as a $500 tractor with a $500 wide front end on it, (it has a wide front, I think they're going for $300-$500) it dosen't seem like such a bad deal. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. -Andy

Im in central iowa. the engine is not stuck.im sure i can make it run.i did buy an f-20 once that wasnt stuck, but 6 of the valves were rusted stuck in the head.it had set in a shed for about 40 years.had a cornpicker on it. i guess thats the kind of stuff you can run into if you cant hear them run.
