Weight of a Farmall A

Can anyone here tell me or estimate the weight of a Farmall A with a set of rear and front wheel weights, tires are not loaded. The local tractor club is going to vote to remove some weight classes and I wanted to know weather my A would be in those classes. Thanks.

Farmall A is around 1800 lbs. Rear wheel weights weigh 140 lbs each. and front weight 50 lbs. each.

Total 280 rear + 100 front + 1800 tractor = 2180

this is all from memory, so it is close but may not be exact.

according to the "IH data book" by Fay the little FAA Farmall A weighs 1870 lbs.---The 1AA International A weighs 2750 lbs. and the FAA Super a weighs 2385 lbs.......

Those numbers make no sense. An International A will not weight 830lbs more than a Farmall A. There just isn't much difference between the two.

From the real world, my B weighs 2140lbs with no wheel weights and no ballast in the tires. Half tank of gas and nobody in the seat. Actual weight, no guesses, no estimates, no reference books. An A in similar set up would weight about 100, maybe 150 lbs less, at the most.

There aren't going to be any big differences in weight between an A, a Super A and a B. As Red Dave points out, there just aren't that many different parts from one model to another. They did tend to gain weight over time, several cases of beefing parts up over time contributed to it. Adding hydraulics put some weight on. Equipment moving from an option to standard would have added to the quoted shipping weight.

The 2,750 weight for an International A is about right for one including a highway mower. My document on it says 2,615 with 9-24 tires plus 110 for starter and lights. You can add more for wheel weights, knife rack (43) and grinder (23).

I'm in your court Jim. Now the difference between a regular A and a Super A, as indicated with Fay's numbers is around 500 lbs. By the time you add up hydraulics and the like, you could probably hit the 500 Lbs. or close to it. I agree though, the industrial shouldn't come near the 800 Lbs. listed, unless of course you add up mowers, etc and all the goodies.

Wheel weights and a few other goodies may have been considered "stock" and not options. Making both rears cast instead of just 1 would influence that number as well.

Wheel weights would have been considered options. However, the early A had stamped wheels on both sides. Changing to the cast wheel on one side would add about 150 pounds and that would have been part of the regular shipping weight on a later A or a Super A.

My IH Sales Book for 1950 has the following:

Farmall Super A Culti-Vison w/9-24 Rear Tires = 2,375 lbs.
Front Wheel Weight = 80 lbs. (2)
Rear Wheel Weight = 279 lbs. (2)

A-21 7ft. mower = 550 lbs.
