Timing an H with magneto

Wanting to set the valves on my H. Am confused about the two timing marks close together on the pulley. Should the pointer be aligned with the first mark (as it comes around in clockwise direction) or should it be aligned with the second?

very easy to check< just remove #1 spark plug and use a long thin screw driver or stiff wire or straw and rotate till you are on tdc on comp. and it will tell you.

It will me the second mark (opinion) there is no need for timing after TDC, and that is in that direction. Be sure the valves are free on # 1 at that point, or you are on the exhaust stroke instead of compression. Jim
