Farmall A lift

Fixed this problem a number of years ago on a super a.Seems the shaft for the governor wears and oil seeps into the crankcase. My friendly ih dealer knew the problem well and sold me a speedy sleeve kit to fix this problem.simple to install, cured the problem.

(quoted from post at 18:36:39 11/29/11) my lift fluid leaks into the engine base with motor oil. I thought I put gaskets and o ring in the right places but it still leaks

If you're talking about the shaft on the hydraulic pump on a super A - a new seal probably won't be enough to seal it. Over time, the shaft gets worn - so much that even a new seal won't have enough contact to seal it up.

What you need is a speedi sleeve.

If you're not familiar with them - it's a paper thin cylinder that slides over the worn area of the shaft, and it gives the seal something to seat against.

They typically hold in place well enough on their own, but you can also use a little epoxy to be sure it stays put.

They're not exactly cheap. Shop around, the prices vary GREATLY. I think the cheapest I found was on amazon.com

I'm adding a link that'll bring you to a page where you can figure out what size you need.

Note too that once the sleeve is on the shaft, it may not fit back through the clearance hole in the body of the pump. Just drill it out larger, it's not a critical dimension so don't over think it, it just needs to clear the shaft with the sleeve on it. The seal does all the work sealing, the shaft shouldn't conact the pump body. (obviously don't go crazy drilling it out TOO large or the seal won't seat properly)
