I have a 1950 H with lambert brakes and I was going to put the band brakes back on and when I got the brakes apart on the 1950 it has a splined shaft coming out and the parts tractor that I got the band drums off of have a smooth shaft with a key. The parts tractor is either a 40 or 41. My ? is do the newer H got a different drum with splines or do I have to chang the shaft in the rear end. Thanks

Newer Hs have a drum with splines, it is one of the things that was changed along the way. I have several drums I am looking to sell for $5 each, I could put 2 in a flat rate box if you'd like them.

I did the same thing on my 1950 H. Robbed the band brake parts from a 1946. Everything fit just as expected, so maybe it was before 1946 when the change was made?
 
I think it may have been around the time the PTO was changed, at a
guess. The earliest H I've parted out was a 44 and it had splines.

I may be up a creek then. The '46 I robbed the parts from IS going to be a tractor again some day. I planned on robbing the brake parts from a '41 to put the '46 back together, but the '41 has the early style PTO. Hmmmm?

Drums would be the only thing I might need, but I don't know when I'll get back to that particular tractor.
