international 300 utility 56 teeth pto gear

I have a international 300 utility that I just bought and it needs some work. The pto doesn't work do to the 56 toothed gear in the middle of the tractor missing teeth and not even having a bolt to hold the wheel on. I found a replacement gear but can't figure how to get the old one off!! Do I have to split the tractor to get this gear off? Thanks in advance.

Yes the center housing has to be removed from the tractor. After its out a retaining ring is removed at rear of pto shaft rear bearing and shaft moved to the rear out of the pto drive gear. Gear then comes out the bottom of housing.
