Two questions.I have a 47 cub eng. ser.#DM 5408
casting date 9=Setp 3=rd q=1947. block part #
251341R1. Is this engine a C60? Question 2. Put a new clutch in and now grinds when you try to put it in gear.Start it in gear it wants to creep forward.Should the release bearing be touching the fingers? With the PTO in ,push the clutch in and it will slow down but not stop. Not sure how much to adjust the clutch. Thanks for any help.

All cubs used the C60 engine. The throw out bearing should not touch the fingers when the clutch is back. you should have about 1/8 clearence. The PTO will creep a little this is due to oil movement, if you put a load on it, it should stop.

Did you adjust the fingers after you replaced the clutch? Adjust the pedal free play? The TOB should not touch the fingers with the pedal out. Also want to make sure the TOB bearing is well greased. The PTO shaft moving with the clutch pedal down is due to the clutch not being fully disengaged, it has nothing to do with oil.
You can adjust the fingers through the inspection hole with out having to split the tractor again. Go to www.farmallcub.com for more info.

If the fingers weren't adjusted properly and you have a Graphite throw out bearing. The TOB is probally ruined. Look in the inspection hole and see. If it is all right, then set the fingers 1/8' from the bearing, making sure they are all exactly the same. Then you can adjust your free play. Good Luck

I dont have the specs in front of me, but there is a spec for the fingers on the PP. Then the freepaly taken up to within 1/8" of the fingers. If you dont adjust the fingers first, adjusting the freeplay wont do any good!
