super M oil pump question

Is there a wrong way to re-assemble the idler gear in the oil pump? I can't remember which end was is up. can't seem to match any marks. The gears mesh diagnally and I am not sure if that is going to mess with the flow. I did not touch the main shaft gears, they are in the original position.

Pat - There is no "wrong" way to install the idler gear. However you MAY be able to identify which way the idler was originally installed by looking for wear marks on the face of the drive gear teeth then installing the idler gear so its wear marks match with the drive gear.

But the pump will work fine with the idler gear installed either side up.

I will add, the clearance between the gear and flat polished end plate should be .001 to .0005" adjusted by various gaskets. Jim
