New sleeves?

Stupid question time: I have to put a new sleeve in one cylinder, but I thought as long as I am at it I may as well have the engine shop pull all the sleeves and I will put new sleeves in. I see that they are available in 3-3/8 and 3-7/16. My current sleeve bore is 3-3/8. I am assuming that the block bore is a standard size and I can put 3-7/16 sleeves in there? If I do, what will the change be on engine power with a slightly larger bore (horsepower?). I'm new at all this, so please don't laugh at my ignorance.

Thank You,

Jim

If you are going to replace 1 sleeve, might as well get a kit and put in the larger size pistons and sleeves in all 4 holes, they are not that expensive. Letter series engine parts are still available and reasonable, now is the time to do it.

In theory bigger bore/pistons mean more cubic inches and that in turn means more HP, but then you have the problem of will the carb give the engine enough extra fuel to work well or will it run lean. But yes it should increase the HP a tad bit

Assuming the piston rings would be sealing the same on 3-7/16 pistons and the 3-3/8 pistons. You you won't see a lot of HP difference between the 3-3/8 aluminum step head pistons and most regular aftermarket overbore types. Also depends what type piston and the final compression you end up with. Also the head pistons are used with.
H tractors used heads with different size combustion chambers. Most times a head casting # is found in the area under the valve cover to identify the head. Yes the overbore sleeves fit the standard block.

New sleeves and step head pistons will give it a bit more pep, but don't expect more than 7-10 HP with both larger bore and higher compression. As was already stated, your carb will be the limiting factor unless you have that reworked to match your combustion chamber work.
