Regular update - Not that exciting......

Well, between the weather and being really busy at work, I haven't been able to spend much time on the regular. However a couple of good things have progressed.

I did get the steel temporarily replaced with rubber, so I can pull start the old girl. Which I attempted last week. Got her to phart multiple times and have excellent oil pressure.

I had so much gas coming out of the exhaust (I have the potato muffler for it, but not installed at the moment), she was belching raw gas out the exhaust and carb. I was afraid that if she did fire up, I might end up with a fire on my hands, so I quit with the starting attempt. Problem I had was that the float just wasn't working right. So, I ordered a new cork float and a needle and seat. Will get those in today, and try again sometime this weekend.

Weather report today and tomorrow are sunny and in the high 50's, so going to really focus on getting her running. She actually doesn't look too bad with the F&H front and rear spokes and rubber, but I am going to put the steel back on when I am done with fixing her up.

The rear steels are the Texas Sand type, and have the optional cleat rings on. Someone tack welded the rings on, and I intend to work over the winter to free them up and remove the tack welds. Original config on those were to be bolted on. The bolts are still there with the mounting blocks, so I should be good to go. DANG, those rears are REALLY heavy with the cleat rings........

Tom,My regular does the same as yours, gas justs runs,at that point I shut the gas off. After a crank or two she will start and than I turn the gas back on.She runs good for a 83 year old tractor. Its probally my favorite. The steel wheels and rust adds class to a forgotten tractor. Not many people can identify the old F series much less the Regular

Tom, I have stop spending money on cork floats
the new gas eats the coating, they do not hold up. Alderson tractor will make you a brass float.
I have them installed in 4 in my tractors so far and never had a problem again. oldiron29

Oldiron, I have a brass float from Fordson house, but was hesitant to solder it on. I have the float set to the proper 15/32", but she still drips gas with the new needle and seat. I am going to set the float back a bit so she pushes on the needle a little harder. Will see if that fixes the problem. If not, I'll solder the brass float in and try again. I will be interested to see what the new float looks like when I open her up.

I did get the potato muffler on today. She gets drug around tomorrow no matter what, to see if I can get her to do more than phart.

One thing for sure, I have never had so much carb trouble with a rebuild as this one. I have done the K5 and IH-10 carbs without issue, and got them right the first time. Letter series carbs I can almost do in my sleep. Not sure what I am doing wrong here, but I'll git 'er done!

Tom, when I get the brass float I have Darrell put it together with a new arm. He has said I can send him a cork arm and he will use that. But! most have been bent and tweeked, Nother better than new straight arm. I have found that most ensign carbs have so much play and slope best to set them every lean from the start.
The measurement and ring line in bowl may have been good when they were new. This has been something I have delt with over the years, With the number of tractors I have with ensign carbs it cost to much to play around. I could not get Gordon to carry brass floats because he said thats not what IH used. oldiron29
