Super C Serial #

I am trying to determin the srial number on a Super C. I am an Oliver guy and have never really researched anything about the older Farmalls. The serial number tag was lost when an aftermarket seat assembly was installed. This tractor was my great grandpa's and has been in the family since 1959. I am currently restoring it and thought someone might know if it is possible to figure out the serial number.does any one happen to have a straight grille for one of these either?
Thanks

Look for a flat machined surface below No1 sparkplug near the fan. It will be covered with layers of paint and dirt. Your serial number should be stamped there and if the engine block was never changed should be able to determine the age of tractor. Should be 6 digits. Hal

The engine number can be used to get in the ballpark of the tractor's age. But it is NOT the same as the serial number. Once the original serial plate is lost, unless you have some document with the serial number listed, the number is gone. Anything said later on is an approximation.

Look on the castings for some letters and numbers
on the gear boxes. They're probably original and may be able to determine some dates. Hal

I have some date codes as follows:
Transmission Housing 7-26-R
Transmission top plate 2-3-R
Rear Axle housing 7-12-R
Torque tube 7-22-R
Engine 12-21-S
I can not find a stamped number on the engine. I located a flat machined surface on the block below the number one spark plug but I do not see any numbers. I found reproduction grilles but my center section is only 17" tall instead of 18.5" like it lists for a Super C. Did all Super C's use the taller grille or is mine a C that was decalled as a Super?
Thanks,

Looks like the chassis would be for a 1948 C tractor. Engine block with a december 21 1949 date was added to tractor sometime after being built. If its a replacement block it may not have a serial number.

Your additional information strongly suggests it is a C that has been upgraded with Super C decals. As D Slater indicated, your date codes are '48 and '49. The engine number, if present, would be stamped, not cast into the flat boss you located.

The inch and a half height increase in the grill was part of what changed from C to Super C. There were several small changes between the 2 models, many of which are obvious to the trained eye but are easily overlooked if you are not quite as familiar with the tractors. One relatively easy to see change was from band to disk type brakes.

I forgot to mention it is equiped with a waterpump. I was told all C's were thermo-syphon cooling systems. That is another reason we always thought it was a Super.
Thanks,

Standard equipment on the C was thermosyphon. But a system with a water pump and thermostat was an option. All Super Cs had a water pump.
