340 thermostat sending unit - threads

Can anyone tell me the thread adapter needed for use of a generic npt sender to the finer female threads on the housing on a '58 340 Utility?

I bought a generic from YT and thus far can't get any guidance on making it fit. struck out at the local parts stores, and unfortunately the tractor is 90 miles away with the old sending unit having to be left there to avoid draining the system.

Thanks in advance for any guidance here.

The threads in the head are NPT. The threads in the adapter will depend upon which gauge you have. IH used a couple of different adapters and an after market unit may be different from either of those. The gauge should have come with the correct adapter aand if it had NPT on the end the adapter is already on there. You will need to remove the old from your hear and use the new one.

Try and find one that comes with all the fittings needed mite need to go to a dealer or salvage yd to find that fitting.

Sounds like Owen has it. Feel kinda silly assuming it was an addition rather than removing an old adapter...I just saw that the old sender was finer thread than npt and stuck it back in. suppose i was in a hurry to stop the antifreeze from flowing. (+raining, +cold, +I'd rather be hunting - the list goes on).

Thanks guys.
