Propane question

I have a Farmall M LP tractor and the tank has a leak. Can i hook the lines to a regular tank that goes to my gas grill untill I can get a new tank built?

You can, but I'd pursue a hi-lo motor fuel tank. Today's gas grille tanks have a check valve built in and the fitting that screws on to the tank valve has a metering orifice in it. I did this on on a tractor and had to drill out the metering orifice in the POL in order to get enough fuel to the machine for anything but an idle.

It will work but you will probably have to source new fittings for the hose where it connect to LP filter.

To switch from vapor to gas, turn the tank upside down. Don't think a 20 pound gas grill tank will maintain pressure very long when drawing vapor. Not sure if the new valves can function upside down. You would be better off using a 33 pound forklift tank.

Needless to say, you will need to make a good holder for the tank.

Yes.

I have a couple of tanks that I use just for nurse tanks and I don't even own a gas grill. However mine are older tanks and don't have the new fancy valve. I fill the tanks myself from the big tank.

You can do most things, chores and stuff, but a heavy load will demand more than the tank can supply. And with a moderate load the tank will grow frost on the outside.

I use a premade hose that had a female flare on one end and 1/4 pipe threads on the other. The factory LP tractors have a T south of the tank just for hooking up a nurse tank. Depending on the conversion, I would think yours would have one too.

(quoted from post at 19:10:31 11/22/11) No, the OPD valves shut off when upside down.

OPD stands for overfill prevention device.

all it does is shut off the valvle when filling once the liquid gets to a certain height so you dont over fill the tank. same concept as the float in your toilet tank.

Thanks to all for the great replies. Im going to use a propane tank from a Clark forklift. Just have to figure out where to mount it for now.Any ideas?
