54 Super M LP

A while back someone wanted a picture of a 54 Super M that was not a super MTA.

That's kind of an interesting couple of pictures.

Despite people like Marty2374 who are relentlessly scraping tractors, there are others who are warehousing old tractors a$$hole to elbow and under cover no less. The supply of complete serviceable old tractors would seem to be inexhaustible.

Yes,that was ME and "IBLOCK". Thanks for the photo! There are some that think they didnt make any,and I wasnt sure myself????(They thought they were ALL MTAs in 54.)

I was also saying since they only made these until Feburary of 54,that it would have to be MORE rare than a 54 super MTA ???

I hope they are not exaustable Wardner?I am hearing like the younger generation might not be getting into this hobby as much as we do,but then I hear of some teens-20 somethings posting on here about dragging an M farmall out of the weeds and getting them running. So I hope that means it is getting MORE popular with younger, newer folks?

That makes me feel good.

I've got 4 young kids in our very new 4H tractor club. There's a LOT of interest from other kids but I really haven't tried to actively "recruit" yet.

With the exception of one of them, these aren't really "farm kids" who would be exposed to tractors anyways. These are kids that are very new to tractors. And they're loving it.

I think once we complete our Super A project and get it in the memorial day parade, and get it on display at some of the local fairs - that'll generate a lot more interest from other kids in town.

We also just got a field the kids can hay for themselves, so the whole club will have their own hay. So they'll get to run that whole operation and actually get to use the equipment "for real". (obivously with lots of careful supervision).

If I can get another parent or two to volunteer some time and resources, we'll really be able to expand. (and I don't think I'll have much trouble there - PLENTY of interested dad's out there too).

If you don't want to see the knowledge base, and appreciation for old tractors lost on the next generation, the best thing you can do is get out there and share it with them, and promote it.

I'll tell you. Of all the work I've ever done with tractors NOTHING is as satisfying as sharing the knowledge with kids and watching them learn.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

Hi Wardner: There is a farmer about 10 miles from me that has, as you wrote... warehousing old tractors a$$hole to elbow and under cover no less... Unquote. I doubt they will be sold to those that will restore them. About 400 tractors and counting. I talked to him and I don't really understand why he is still buying more other then to prove something to himself? I'll bet many will have engines that have locked/rusted up over the many decades since they were bought.. many with rear tires now bad from just sitting..

Neat stuff!
I have a low sn 400 lp with the large diameter tank. I need to post about it as it doesn't have a tag suffix for lp, just for the ta.

wardner, everyone has to make a living someway. i just bought a pickup load of parts off of marty and he was very accomodating by letting my son pick them up after hours with no one around but his fork truck to use. besides if no one had junked any model t or model a fords they would still only be worth fifty bucks.

Okay-Randy----------This is John from Pa. Does the 54 SM have the propane head? Was it made by IH or was it sent to Lubbock for a conversion? It was my impression that 500 SMTA's were sent to Lubbock Tx for the conversion and then returned to IH for distribution?

TY

hi john we still haven't done anything to the last 400 that we bought from you. the super m had the 450lp head on it when i bought it from a fellow on this site at kennet missouri. i took it off and sold it and put on an 8060 head which is the proper head for a super m propane tractor. and yes it was lp from the factory. only the super mta's were a non factory conversion.

(quoted from post at 16:43:02 11/22/11) If, they were still only worth $50 bucks then more people could enjoy them couldn't they?
you are certainly right and the john deere people wouldn't crab about reproduction parts making them worth less money either.

I have 5 LP M's, 1 -400 factory LP and a 450 WF factory LP. We also recently got a SMTA LP. With the market like it is these days, I don't know why I keep buying them. I haven't had a chance to check these out yet, but when I do I will formulate a plan. LOL

Randy--------The SMTA LP is in Pa and the others are still in Tx. I have been thinking about bringing the 450 up. My trucker charges $500 per unit which isn't bad, but I almost need to have someone interested in one before I schedule a load. Having one spoken for helps with the trucking.
They are all nice straight tractors, but we need to go over them. Scrap down in the Panhandle is about 1/2 of what it is here, so you can still buy them at a reasonable price. We just bought a lot of big , 170 plus HP MH tractors. You know the ones with the Cat 3208 and the big Perkins V8's.
One 4x4 was so big we had to take the cab off to get it here. It is an addiction I guess. LOL.

Randy, I see no problem parting out tractors. There seems to be plenty of inventory wasting away in fencerows. But Marty does annoy me by destroying running units that even have good paint. He has a Cub like that which is now listed. But it is his property and it's none of my business.

My problem with Marty is his dishonesty and miserable attitude. The attitude is reflected in his lousy or deceptive pictures, using wrong nomenclature on his auction titles, zero verbal descriptions, atrocious packaging, his unwillingness to return communications, and failure to leave feedback unless responding to negative feedback.

The dishonesty is reflected in selling defective parts without warning and not shipping paid-for parts. I bought six items on his F400 that closed 4Nov11. He has chosen not to send the Fast Hitch wishbone. I wrote him twice without a reply. Yesterday, I was eligible to open a Buyer Protection case against him. This morning he refunded $23.63 as full compensation and that has closed the case. I have tried to reopen it but I don't think it is possible. I paid $9.99 plus $30 shipping. He has effectively stolen $16.36 from me. There is a very high likelihood that he will blacklist me as well as he has done before.

This is the second time he has shortchanged me on a refund. The first was with a bent hydraulic cylinder last spring. He knew it was bad because the rod could not be retracted for for shipping. In that case, I only received half the shipping which is against eBay policy.

There are a few brave buyers that leave negative feedback but most do not want a retaliatory negative feedback from him. If you click on his negatives at eBay, you will see that I am not the only buyer who has been shafted.

It's a good thing that the Mafia has no interest in antique tractors. Marty's legs would have been replaced with Pitman arms long ago.

he only time i got a bad part from marty was a 450 manifold and i wrote him and he asked me if i wanted my money back or wait until he had another one. i replied that i would wait until he had another one. it was a couple of months but he sent me another one and he paid the shipping charges too. i can't fault him for the dealings that we have had with him. he must not like you.
