Wheres the Engine Serial number on an M?

As i look for parts i keep seeing references to the engine serial number....I have the serial number that is on the metal tag and its a 1949, but the sites i go to keep refering to enging serial numbers before 59393 or after 59394.....can anyone help?
 
Look for a flat machined surface below your No1 sparkplug near the radiator. It may have several coats of paint and dirt on it. The numbers are stenciled into the surface of the block. Hal
 
There should be a metal tag on the bell housing
near where clutch pedal is. It should be on the left side. It should also be on the block as I described. Hal
 
Unless its not the original engine a 49 model will have a engine serial number way higher than the numbers you posted.
